Mt Eden new residence .
Status: Completed 2025
New, family home on a small suburban street with views of the nearby Maungawhau / Mt Eden volcano.
This project involved the replacement of an existing dwelling with a contemporary home, carefully planned to support both family life and generous entertaining. The design balances practicality with considered architectural expression, ensuring the home functions effortlessly on a day-to-day basis while accommodating larger gatherings with ease.
A palette of powder-coated metal and painted brick was selected for its durability and low-maintenance performance, while also establishing a strong, textural composition. The interplay of materials reinforces the building’s geometry and gives the façade a confident, enduring character.
The gable roof form offers a subtle acknowledgement of the neighbouring weatherboard villas, grounding the home within its streetscape. An overhanging upper storey creates a sheltered entry verandah, referencing the previous dwelling and continuing the owners’ enjoyment of occupying the threshold between home and street.
